CDCP renewal closes June 1: how to keep your 2026-2027 dental coverage

If you are enrolled in the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), your coverage does not roll over by itself. The federal renewal window for the 2026-2027 benefit year is open now, and it closes on June 1, 2026.

Renew on time and your coverage continues with no gap. Miss it, and you are back to a fresh application — with no coverage during the processing wait.

Here is the five-minute version.

The dates that matter

  • Renewal window: April 15 – June 1, 2026
  • Current coverage stays active until: June 30, 2026 (then expires unless you renew)
  • New applications and late renewals: open starting June 2, 2026

If you renew before June 1, your coverage rolls straight into the next benefit year. If you miss the deadline, you do not get a grace period — you have to re-apply from scratch, and you will be without coverage until the new application is approved.

Who can renew

You can renew if you still meet the same criteria as last year:

  • Canadian resident for tax purposes
  • You filed your 2025 taxes and have received your Notice of Assessment from the CRA
  • Adjusted family net income under $90,000 (based on your 2025 tax info)

The Notice of Assessment is the most common snag. CRA usually issues it within a few weeks of filing, but if you have not received yours yet, sign in to CRA My Account or call the CRA — you cannot renew CDCP without that document on file.

How to renew (five minutes, online)

The fastest path is online through your federal account:

  1. Sign in to your My Service Canada Account (MSCA).
  2. Open the Canadian Dental Care Plan section.
  3. Confirm that your details — name, address, family info — match your latest tax return.
  4. Submit.

If you do not have an MSCA account or prefer to talk to someone, you can renew by phone with Service Canada. Expect to wait on hold during the final week before the deadline; calling earlier in the morning helps.

What happens if you miss June 1

Your current coverage stays active until June 30, 2026, and then it ends. After that:

  • Any treatment is out of pocket until your new application is approved.
  • New applications in the first weeks of June tend to process slower than usual, because that is when most late filers send theirs in.

The simplest move: take five minutes this week. It is faster than re-applying later, and it keeps your June and July cleanings covered.
